BENIN—THE senator rep-resenting Edo North senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Domingo Obende, yesterday, alleged that the reports that he intends to dump All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were masterminded by those who want to take over his seat in 2015.
Describing the reports as mischievous, untrue and an attempt to destroy his image and position in the APC, he said it was “planned to be a detraction and to mis-inform my people by some aspirants in the district, who are fast losing out in the contest to take over my position in the Senate.
“I am a very focused person, not just focused, I know the meaning of shame. I want to say again that on February 12, 2010, I resigned from PDP having risen to the rank of a senatorial chairman and I joined the then Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and now APC and I also want to say that I was never kicked out.
“It was not under pressure, even after the primaries of 2007 which were a clear case of robbery, I stayed in PDP to work for the PDP and brought victory to it. So, I was convinced in my heart that I needed to shift ground and I did shift and in so doing, I got probably what I was looking for in 2007.
“The issue of defection is not in the dictionary of Domingo. It is not in my character, and it will never be in my character because every political position anybody takes has a local stand because there must be a local reference of your action.
“So for me, APC is the party I belong to and that is where I registered.”
It will be recalled that the senator has been in a running battle with the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, who is also in the race for the senatorial seat in Edo North.
